It’s not too good to be true. And it’s not some ridiculous fad either. It’s simple old omega-3.
Omega-3 fats are good fats that are essential for the growth and correct function of the brains neural tissues. Omegas are a fat that is essential for us to eat, as we can’t create it from within our bodies.
In the distant past, when we were hunter gatherers we would typically consume lots of fresh fish rich in Omega-3, and maintain the ideal balance between omega-3 & omega-6 fats; a ratio of between 1:1 up to 1:4.
Nowadays we consume many more omega-6 fats in our modern diet, usually rich in dairy products, meat and vegetable oils. When the balance of omega-3 to omega-6 gets out of whack then it can impair the function of your nervous system and lead to many diseases. Most people with a modern diet have ratios of 1:10 or even as high as 1:60!! Waay too many omega-6′s.
Too much omega-6 has been related to the following inflammatory problems:
- cardiovascular disease
- type 2 diabetes
- metabolic syndrome
- irritable bowel syndrome & inflammatory bowel disease
- macular degeneration
- rheumatoid arthritis
- psychiatric disorders
- autoimmune diseases
