How to Lose Weight – 7 Steps to Slimming Success

Modelling success means to follow the steps of someone who has been successful at something you want to do.

I realised after our most recent event, that Kate, Betsy and I could give you some more of the “how to” steps involved in our  own success stories so that you can model our success if you would like to!

I have been very successful in losing weight after struggling for many years with it. I found that the steps that worked were in fact, very specific.

Here are the 7 steps to weight loss success that worked for me, and have worked for hundreds of my clients.

1. REALISE that lasting weight loss starts in your mind.

When you begin in your mind, and begin with an intention to get slim for good, out of love and compassion for yourself, rather than punishment, you are more than halfway there!

2. RESULTS – What specifically do you want?

Set a SMARTER goal for your ultimate slim & sexy outcome. Get it so clear in your mind that you can pinpoint an exact moment of success and imagine it clearly in your mind. Maybe it’s walking down to the beach in your sexy bikini with your flat stomach and toned arms feeling amazing, or maybe it’s walking into a shop knowing you can try on anything, or maybe crossing the finish line of a marathon. What’s your moment of success?

3. REASONS & RESOLVE – Why do you want it?

You must have a huge WHY in order to get slim and healthy. A big reason that you are emotionally charged about. There are always loads of reasons to get slim, better health, better energy etc. but I didn’t really resolve to do something about it until I realised that my weight could jeopardise the future of my relationship because I didn’t feel comfortable in my skin. That’s when I really resolved to make a change.

4. RELEASE the emotional weight of the past.

This is a critical step, and one that I help my clients with through coaching. To make a lasting change with self-love, you must truly love yourself and let go of all your baggage & negative self-talk from the past. It isn’t serving you. It’s time to be kind to yourself and let it go!

5. REFRAME positive meanings for exercise, health & your body.

It is very difficult to eat healthily or to exercise if you say things to yourself like “I hate salads” or “I can’t run, my boobs are too big” or “I’ll never have a flat stomach anyway so why bother. My family are all big-boned.” These kinds of negative statements and meanings become self-fulfilling prophecies. Create empowering, positive statements about exercise, healthy food and your body and you will find the actions much easier to do.

6. REFINE & adjust your actions according to your results.

You must take action. Small daily steps. You also need to notice what is working and what is not. If you have consistently stuck to your plan for a month or more and you are not getting results, you need to refine your plan and adjust. This continual adjustment will take you to success, because when you listen to your own body you are creating a plan that is specific and tailored for you.

7. RELAX & enjoy your life as a slim person.

This is where you get off the weight loss plan and get on the continual health improvement plan! Health is a never-ending journey. After each success you will hunger for more. To run further, be fitter, more flexible, more adept at whatever sports you’re into. Get out and live your life!

Nutrition & Exercise program I used to drop 20kgs in 3 months.

When I dropped the 20kgs in 3 months, over 7 years ago, I followed a program called Body-for-Life by trainer Bill Phillips. I have since come across a better program, in my opinion that incorporates a lot of the mindset lessons that I teach and allows for different body type adaptations as well.  That program is the Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle program by Tom Venuto. You can buy his e-book with all the program guidelines, exercise, and nutrition info here. When I get over giving birth, this is the program I will use to get myself in shape again. Another excellent program I have tested personally is the Michelle Bridges 12wbt, this has a lot of wonderful support forums, and is very detailed, with yummy recipes & exercise programs for different fitness levels.

I hope that quick overview of the steps that worked for me has helped you. You can read more of my personal weight loss story here, and if you would like to receive my weight loss motivation newsletter, you can sign up in the yellow box on my site, and you will receive a short e-book on these 7 steps in more detail.

If you have any questions, you can post them below, or on my weight loss motivation facey page.

Best! Kylie x
